Sisters Marilen and Bettina Cacho saw that there was a lack of quality baked goods in the Philippine market. They turned their frustration into an opportunity to create a niche market for European and American bread and bakery products. The combination of Marilen’s vision to provide food for other businesses and Bettina’s European culinary expertise laid the foundation for Chef’s Secret.
1996: Small Kitchen, Big Dreams
From a small kitchen under the stairway, the sisters conceptualized and produced European breads to offer to the market. They broke into the industry by supplying baguettes, focaccia, ciabatta and other specialty breads for one of the top Italian restaurants in the metro.
1998: From Commissary to Corporation
The business began to take shape and was incorporated. With the help of an international chef-consultant, Chef’s Secret bagged its first large account: a publicly-listed industrial catering company. This marked the beginning of one of the company’s longest-running partnerships.
1999: Big Break
Chef’s Secret got its first big break when they won the bid to supply sandwiches for a renowned international coffee chain, which then had only one outlet. They took the leap and grew with the coffee chain, which now has over 200 stores nationwide.
Having established a reputation for reliability, the company began attracting the attention of reputable clients. One of them, a warehouse club that contracted Chef’s Secret to create baked goods exclusive to the store.
As more and more clients came in, operations grew and evolved. The company had to move to a bigger plant to accommodate more product lines and better equipment.
Dedication, discipline, and diligence earned the company accreditations and certificates of quality from GMP and HACCP.
2010: Leaving A Legacy
Bettina’s passing left a void in the company. But her discipline, hardwork , and being a stickler for quality set the foundation of the company’s values. “Our focus is to do things by international standards.”
2014: HACCP Certified
After one year of assiduous preparation , Chef’s Secret earns the HACCP certification for the bread and food lines.
Chef’s Secret continues to grow and attract more local and global food franchises. Focus has been upgrading and modernizing its plant facilities systems and procedures in keeping with technological advancements and reinforcing practices on quality and food safety standards to ensure compliance.
